SNAP stands for Stop Now And Plan.
About the program
It is an evidence-based behavioural model developed by the Child Development Institute.
It provides a framework for teaching children struggling with behaviour issues, and their parents, effective emotional regulation, self-control and problem-solving skills. The primary goal of SNAP is to help children to stop and think before they act, and keep them in school and out of trouble.
About this work
I had a chance to meet some of the amazing SNAP kids in Toronto and to photograph them, in their school.
Some have successfully completed the program and keep coming every week to offer their help, others with more complicated situations are still under the Child Development Institute's watch.
I did not have more than 2 or 3 minutes with each kid, as their attention and patience can be sometimes very limited. We shot the portraits in their environment, where they feel the most confident.
